The City of Chelan is a “strong Mayor” or Mayor-Council form of government, as opposed to a “Council/manager” form of government.
The mayor-council form of government consists of an elected mayor (elected at-large), who serves as the city’s chief administrative officer, and a council (elected at-large), which serves as the municipality’s legislative body. The council has the authority to formulate and adopt city policies and the mayor is responsible for carrying them out. The mayor attends and presides over council meetings but does not vote, except in the case of a tie. The Mayor has authority to hire and fire employees where the City Council has the authority over the budget.
My wife, Janice, and I moved to Chelan in 2005 for several reasons which include: to live in a small rural community, improve our lifestyle and to start our own business (The Vogue). It has always been a dream to find such a community and we have now realized it!
Early on I heard a comment that the best communities have a higher percentage of citizens involved in their communities thus my involvement in city government. I have served two terms (8 years) on City Council and am now in my first term as Mayor.
My overall goal as Mayor is to see if I can make a tangible positive impact on our community. Some of my key priorities include having our City provide first-class service to our residents, maintaining and improving neighborhoods so all residents live in a clean, safe environment and helping to build a stronger economy by adding clean, light industry which will match-up well with our current agriculture and tourist economies.
My vision for the City of Chelan is to retain the charm of our historic downtown, control sprawl, enhance our walkability, do our part to keep Lake Chelan pristine and to pass on a better community to the next generation.
I am truly honored to be your Mayor and will work every day and every way to be the very best.
