Park Rules & Regulations

The City of Chelan has updated its park rules to ensure a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for everyone. These rules include regulations on day camping, alcohol consumption, BBQing and more.

  • Park Hours: 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM unless otherwise stated.
  • No “Day Camping”: Shade structures must have no more than 2 sides and be less than 10 feet by 10 feet in size and BBQing can only happen in the city-provided charcoal BBQs.
  • Alcohol Consumption:No alcohol is permitted in city parks.
  • Dogs: Dogs are not allowed in city parks Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day. When dogs are allowed in city parks, leash and scoop laws apply.

How will these rules be enforced?
The City of Chelan is committed to enforcing these rules to maintain a pleasant environment for all visitors. Enforcement will be carried out by park staff, law enforcement, and other relevant authorities.  

What are the penalties for violating these rules?
Violations of park rules can result in fines or other legal consequences. Littering or illegal dumping in parks can lead to fines of up to $100. 

What kinds of tents or shade structures can I bring?
Camping Tents are only allowed within the boundaries of designated campsites in Lakeshore RV Park. "Tent" is defined as a temporary shelter with a bottom and/or more than two (2) sides. Shade canopies or structures greater than ten (10) foot by ten (10) foot in size are prohibited. Such canopies cannot block pathways and must be three (3) feet from other structures.
 
Are there specific areas where dogs are allowed?
Dogs are not allowed in any city parks from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Chelan County PUD parks (Riverwalk Park) permit dogs on a leash year-round. 

Can I bring a portable grill or BBQ to prepare food in the parks?
Fires are only allowed in permanent park-provided grills for cooking food. Personal grills, BBQs or portable fire pits are not permitted.  

Where is alcohol consumption allowed?
No alcohol is permitted in any city park unless specified. Alcohol consumption is only permitted within the boundaries of designated campsites in Lakeshore RV Park, within the boundaries of the Lake Chelan Municipal Golf Course, and pursuant to a permit issued by the Washington State Liquor Control Board

Water Safety & Courtesy Guidelines – Chelan County

To help keep our waters safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone, please follow these important guidelines:

  • Give swimmers space: 
    • Please keep motorboats and sailboats at least 25 yards away from clearly marked swimming and diving areas.
  • Respect docks and swim areas:
    • Do not tie up your boat to private docks without permission.
    • Avoid mooring near designated swim zones or floating structures.
  • Slow down near others:
    • Operate at a slow, no-wake speed when within 100 feet of:
    • Swim floats or marked swim areas
    • Swimmers or anyone using flotation devices
    • Anglers, paddlers, and manually powered vessels
    • Anchored or drifting boats
  • Keep our waters clean:
    • Never dispose of trash, waste, or untreated sewage in the lake.
    • Always clean your hull to remove aquatic plants from boats, trailers, and gear before launching. The watercraft invasive species removal station at Lakeshore Marina is available at no cost.
  • No beaching of watercraft is allowed—please use designated launch and docking areas
