Mayor Erin McCardle delivered the State of the City address on January 30, 2025, at the Lake Chelan Community Center, outlining Chelan’s progress, challenges, and future goals. She emphasized the city’s commitment to preserving its rural, lakeside character while managing responsible growth. With a population of 4,580 and 650,000 annual visitors, Chelan operates on a $23.1 million budget, balancing infrastructure investments and community services.

Key accomplishments from 2024 included launching Chelan’s first strategic plan and securing major funding, such as $9 million for the East Chelan Reservoir Project and $3.5 million for the Lakeside Trail. Affordable housing efforts advanced through projects like Cottage Housing Infill and Habitat for Humanity Short Plat. The city also worked with Chelan County on a Tourism Impact Study and enhanced community engagement through public outreach initiatives. Investments in public safety and youth programs included the establishment of Cold Weather Warming Stations and a $234,000 allocation for the Boys & Girls Club.

Looking ahead, Chelan will update its Comprehensive Plan to guide future growth while protecting natural resources. Housing initiatives will expand affordable options through revised zoning and reduced utility fees. Infrastructure projects include a $16.1 million investment in water, sewer, and road improvements, as well as a revitalization of Lakeside Park. The city also plans to launch a text alert system and “Mondays with the Mayor” to improve public engagement. Residents are encouraged to stay involved and sign up for city alerts by texting ‘Chelan’ to 38276.

Mayor McCardle closed by emphasizing collaboration, sustainability, and strategic investment as keys to Chelan’s future.
