Transportation Benefit District

The City of Chelan proposes a sales and use tax increase from 8.4% to 8.7% to fund the newly formed Transportation Benefit District. If passed, this ballot measure will add 30 cents to every $100 of taxable goods and services in order to provide funding for a range of transportation projects approved by City Council in the recently amended 2025-2030 Six-Year Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).

Expected to raise about $1 million annually, this stable funding source is essential for maintaining Chelan's transportation system. With our influx of tourists each year, it is estimated that 65% of the sales tax paid within the city limits is paid for by visits to Chelan. This is one way for the City to ensure that the burden of maintaining our transportation infrastructure is shared by both residents and visitors. Currently, the majority of street expenses is paid by property taxes.

This measure allows for long-term investment in our city’s infrastructure and improves safety and mobility for residents and visitors. By investing in our transportation network, we are fostering a thriving and connected community.
